Favorite referencing style
MLA is the style I am most familiar with. However, I am happy to work with any style.
Why I became an editor
I am an ESL/EFL writing teacher, so transitioning into proofreading to help more people improve their writing was an easy decision. I also simply love writing, and I believe that writing is a lifelong skill that we can all improve. I want to not only push myself, but also help others accomplish their goals to become better writers.
Background and experience
I am an EFL teacher for a university in southeast China. Part of my role, and formal education, is teaching academic writing to undergraduate and postgraduate students. We cover everything from academic language, rhetoric, and organization to basic grammar. I am definitely comfortable working with academic documents on most subjects.
Why I love proofreading and editing
Not only do I love reading other people's work and learning about new topics, but I enjoy seeing a document transform into its best version. It is also very satisfying to help a person with their personal statements for college, their first book, or even their dissertation. These are big moments in any person's life, and to help others achieve their goals is always rewarding.
Favorite book:
“Child of God” by Cormac McCarthy.
Hobbies:
You can find me cooking, hiking, traveling, or reading in my time off.
Editing tips:
Reading aloud from top to bottom, then reading aloud from bottom to top is helpful.
