Favorite referencing style
APA is my favorite referencing style because I used it while writing university essays and my final theses.
Why I became an editor
I studied psychology at university, and to this day, I'm fascinated by human behavior and mental health. However, I realized pretty quickly that I was more interested in reading about and researching such topics than actually treating people.
My passion for reading doesn't end with academic texts, though. I've always been in love with fiction (especially LGBT fiction) and language in general. Add to that my introverted nature and perfectionism, and here we are.
Proofreading and editing give me the opportunity to combine my personal interests with my natural abilities and professional skills. And if it means I can help others improve their work, it really is a dream come true.
Background and experience
For the past three years, I've managed the one-man editorial board of my own literary/arts magazine, so I'm used to working with clients who exhibit different skills and styles. My passion for the editing process has led me to begin professional proofreading and editing, and that's why I'm here now: to begin the journey.
Why I love proofreading and editing
To be honest, I'm a true perfectionist. Nothing bothers me more than when I spot spelling or grammatical errors while reading a book or article. I love that proofreading gives me the opportunity to fix those little mistakes.
I'm also very interested in language and literature. Polishing a sentence until it reaches its full potential isn't only essential but also very satisfying.
I can work on both fiction and nonfiction.
Favorite book:
Just Kids by Patti Smith.
Hobbies:
When I'm not proofreading, I'm reading (and really trying not to be an editor), watching movies, or taking long walks with my little sausage dog.
Editing tips:
First, I read the whole document, without changing or correcting anything, to familiarize myself with the author's style and voice. Then I proceed from paragraph to paragraph, cleaning up the text as I go. Before I consider the work finished, I reread the text from beginning to end to see if it's truly coherent and error-free.
