APA referencing; I have more experience with it than with other styles.
Why I became an editor
While working for a large agricultural organization, I started writing commentaries and newsletter articles that were very well received by the readers. That encouraged me to continue writing, and before long it became part of my job to edit and proofread all communications that were produced. My years in business have taught me that clear communication is of the utmost importance, and I feel very fortunate that I can help others achieve that.
Background and experience
I have spent my working life so far farming full time as part owner of several farm businesses. In addition, I have more than ten years of experience in writing, editing, and proofreading a variety of documents, including articles, commentaries, newsletters, news releases, and speeches. Since retiring from farming last year, I have enjoyed taking some time off to study (cognition, animal welfare issues, mindfulness) and upgraded my proofreading skills to start a freelance career.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I love helping people communicate their ideas clearly and concisely. I enjoy proofreading and editing anything related to agriculture, environmental protection, animal health and welfare, cognition, mindfulness, and faith-based documents.
Favorite book:
The Eighty-Dollar Champion by Elizabeth Letts
Hobbies:
I love riding my horse, Cody. And my dog, an Aussie named Lilly, keeps me active on the walking trails. When those two allow me some time to myself, I enjoy reading a good book.
Editing tips:
I keep the target audience in mind. By doing that, I can ensure that the vocabulary is geared toward the level of understanding of the subject by the reader.
