How to Rewrite AI-Generated Content
AI-powered writing tools are capable of generating a high volume of content quickly and efficiently — but quantity doesn’t always equal quality! If you’re using AI tools to support your writing process, make sure you’re taking the time to manually edit and rewrite the content when necessary. In this post, we’ll give you some tips on how to make the most of technology and rewrite AI-generated content.
Why You Need to Rewrite AI-Generated Content
If you’re using AI writing tools, such as ChatGPT, to generate content, then you’ll know that what they produce doesn’t always read naturally or flow smoothly. While the content can be informative, it tends to lack the creative touch and unique perspective that human writers offer. Here are some guidelines to follow when rewriting AI content:
Combine Repetitive Sentences
The phrasing AI writing tools use can be redundant or downright repetitive. To improve concision, pinpoint areas where extraneous information can be removed or rephrased while still maintaining the main ideas or overall theme of the content. If multiple sentences are repeating the same information in different ways, paraphrase and combine them into one sentence.
Use Simpler Language
AI models are typically programmed to use a formal or neutral tone. If you notice that your AI-generated content is using unnecessarily complex language or technical jargon, cut it or replace it with a simpler alternative. A thesaurus, like this online version, is a great resource for finding easier-to-understand vocabulary alternatives. And depending on your audience, you can even incorporate some informal phrases or slang for a fresher, more casual tone.
Ensure Smooth Transitions
You may need to add transitions between paragraphs and sentences to improve the flow of the content. For instance, if the AI response contains an awkward shift between topics, smooth it out by adding relevant transitional words or phrases, such as “however,” “in addition to,” “compared to,” or “finally.” Transition words help give the writing structure, demonstrate the connection between ideas, and show the sequence of events.

You can also combine short, abrupt sentences using subordinating conjunctions (such as “and,” “yet,” or “but”) to improve the flow of the writing and make it read more naturally.
Reframe and Paraphrase
Reframing or paraphrasing involves expressing the same idea or information in different words while retaining the original meaning. You can reframe the sentence to use the active voice rather than passive, which focuses more on the subject of the sentence or reorganize and paraphrase the sentence entirely to emphasize different aspects. Just make sure you’ve fully read and understood the content before paraphrasing it so that you don’t unintentionally alter the meaning.
Give the Content a Final Edit and Proofread
Make sure to edit your work for style and proofread your final draft to check for any typos, mistakes, or inconsistencies you may have missed in the original content or introduced during the rewrite.
