Favorite referencing style

I like APA referencing best as it is the one I am most familiar with.

Why I became an editor

I have always enjoyed looking over texts for errors in my day-to-day life. Throughout my career, this has included correcting documents and software products to ensure they are accurate for the reader. After many years of doing this for fun, I decided to take a proofreading course to learn more about the subtleties of the English language and to increase my knowledge. I am looking forward to putting these new learned skills into practise.

Background and experience

While working as a quality control manager for a software company, I helped test the insurance products. I needed a high level of attention to detail in this role to help maintain the quality of the product. When the company was bidding for new customers, I would often be asked to help proofread the documents for accuracy. In my current part-time role as a science technician, I need to be very accurate and precise as much of my role involves using chemicals and making up solutions for lessons.

Why I love proofreading and editing

When I read a document that has errors in it, I think it looks unprofessional and loses its impact. I therefore enjoy proofreading and formatting texts so they flow and are aesthetically pleasing to the reader.

Hobbies:

When I am not proofreading, I work part time in a secondary school as a science technician, which combines my attention to detail with my love of science. I also enjoy cooking, travelling, and going for walks.

Editing tips:

I like to use a checklist to ensure I have covered different aspects of the English language. This is a dynamic document that I often update. For example, during my proofreading training, I created my own Excel checklist to help me maintain my high standards.
