As an avid reader, I love CMOS, but as a philosophy major, part of my heart will always belong to MLA.
Why I became an editor
During my fourteen years as a bookkeeper, I developed an appreciation for small businesses and individuals who dream big. But while I loved the clients I worked with, I didn’t love working with numbers all day, every day. Eventually, I decided to change careers. I still had a heart for independent businesses and wanted to use my skills to support their missions, so I became a copyeditor and proofreader to combine the two things I am most passionate about: reading and supporting small businesses.
Background and experience
I am the owner of a small copyediting and proofreading business. I’m also a member of Distributed Proofreaders and a volunteer contributing proofreader for Project Gutenberg.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I love helping writers gain confidence in their work. It's amazing what a difference a few small changes can make on someone's paper or article. Being able to use my academic experience and training to help others is a dream come true.
Favorite book:
I love “The Lord of the Rings” by Tolkien. I read the trilogy every fall. I'm also a big fan of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's “Sherlock Holmes” stories.
Hobbies:
When I'm not working, I love to read, cook, practice yoga, or play board games with my family.
Editing tips:
Read once for comprehension, then go back to edit. Don't try to do it all on the first read.
