Why I became an editor
Having an author for a mother ingrained in me the process and joy of writing stories. Although I decided to pursue a career in culinary arts as a young adult, I have since had my fill of cooking. I do not believe I will ever have my fill of books. Proofreading is a very enjoyable and gratifying role for me; I can read and assist writers with polishing their work. I have developed a keen eye for detail and aim to use it to help polish each piece of writing into the best work of art it can be.
Background and experience
I recently began proofreading short stories for Shami Stovall. Shami Stovall is an award winning science fiction and fantasy author. She sends out one short story to her Patreon supporters every month.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I love reading other people's writing, particularly science fiction and fantasy stories. I love the satisfaction of being trusted by an author with proofreading their life's work and developing a relationship.
Favorite book:
My favorite book is The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss.
Hobbies:
When there's no keyboard beneath my fingers, a paintbrush will often occupy my hands. I also have "too many interests disorder," so I am quite often pursuing a new craft or skill at any given time.
Editing tips:
I always read my documents out loud, and I take breaks between passes. Reading with fresh eyes keeps me alert to any errors I may have missed.
