BA in Secondary School Social Studies Education Roberts Wesleyan College 2007–2011
I have a preference for Chicago style, but I am growing fond of APA.
Through a long and difficult career journey, I discovered that I love to take on new projects that offer novel challenges and include intrinsic rewards. I am also a voracious reader. Many of my literary heroes were editors, and editing can improve one's own writing as much as it improves others. I believe in the power of the written word, and the advantage that a well thought out essay has over other forms of communication when given proper care.
I completed my bachelor's in education for high school history, and during my training, I created rubrics, graded hundreds of student essays, and instructed classes. I enjoy seeing a person's idea reach its final form.
I like to read what others have written. I get pleasure from finding an error and correcting it, sort of like a treasure hunt. The challenge and novelty of each new paper means the work never gets boring. I also like to read clear English, and if I can play a role in that, it brings me lasting satisfaction. I read everything: history, politics, psychology, technology, literature, biography, and even grammar books. My favorite writers are those who write the clearest.

Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert
I spend time with my daughter, work on my chess game, read, write, draw, find good movies to watch, play retro video games, and walk as much as I can, preferably in nature.
I construct a checklist. During each read, I focus on specific things, like spelling, grammar, citations, references, or punctuation. I also like to read the work out loud.
