Why I became an editor
During my 20 year career with the US Navy Band, I began writing program notes for concerts and feature articles for the organization's newsletter. I was soon drafted into the editing process for award citations, performance evaluations, and various Navy documents. Later, I took an online course in transcript proofreading and began working for court reporters. I still play my clarinet, but I am loving my new role as an editor.
Background and experience
I played the clarinet for the US Navy Band and have also done freelance transcript proofreading.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I have always been an avid reader. Typos and grammatical errors can be so distracting, and I love the process of cleaning them up!
Favorite book:
Paris in the Present Tense by Mark Helprin
Hobbies:
Running and hiking are my favorite hobbies.
Editing tips:
Read every word. Often, the brain will insert missing words, re-order transposed words, or gloss over things without you realizing it. When possible, I like to read out loud also.
