Favorite referencing style
APA is my favorite. I became accustomed to using it in my undergraduate and graduate coursework.
Why I became an editor
I studied Political Science as an undergraduate and Public Administration at the graduate level. I thoroughly enjoyed the academic setting, which allowed me the opportunity to do what I love most: reading, writing, and conducting research. In addition, I have loved reading and writing since childhood. Editing provides me with the opportunity to do what I love while helping others to perfect their work.
Background and experience
Although I have an academic background (and personal interest) in public policy, I worked in a corporate environment for 20 years. My previous career was in commercial insurance. My roles included case management, sales/marketing, and client services. Currently, I am also volunteering as a Court Appointed Special Advocate. This is a volunteer position that advocates for children in the foster system.
Why I love proofreading and editing
Proofreading provides me with the opportunity to help others perfect their written documents. Because of my background, I especially enjoy academic documents in the social sciences, politics, and public policy, as well as formal business documents.
Favorite book:
How Not to Die by Dr. Michael Greger
Hobbies:
When not proofreading, I am likely to be found spending time with my family, cooking, or reading about nutrition.
Editing tips:
Using a checklist is absolutely essential to staying organized and thoroughly checking the document. I am also mindful of being conservative with edits to preserve the author's voice.
