Favorite referencing style
I love APA. It is simple and straightforward.
Why I became an editor
I have always loved writing. It's all my grandfather's fault. He kept encouraging me from a very young age. I delved into every kind of writing I could from that point on. This led me to major in English in college where I fell madly in love with Shakespeare's use of language. Since then, I have become a stickler for accuracy in written communication. Words must be spelled correctly and sentences punctuated properly or my world just doesn't make sense anymore. Proofreading is perfect for me.
Background and experience
I have worked for the local newspaper writing personal interest stories on artists, new businesses, and colorful characters. I have done volunteer proofreading for an archaeological magazine, current events magazine, and others. I have edited brochures for schools, and I helped write a business plan for a water purification project.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I fell in love with proofreading when I took your course. It helped me to become a better writer, and I want to help others become better writers as well. For some reason, the accuracy it demands speaks to my inner self. There's a certain euphoria about always reaching to perfect a piece of writing.
Favorite book:
My favorite book is Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. My mother gave it to me to read, and it jump started my love of reading.
Hobbies:
When not proofreading, I answer the call of the wild and go visit my grandchildren, walk through the canyon, dream about my husband, and make up nonsensical poetry.
Editing tips:
I find that reading the piece several times helps me. I do at least one very slow read-through, and I go back and check each individual correction in the document and in the comments field.
