Favorite referencing style
Given my passion for psychology and linguistics, I'm more familiar with APA referencing style.
Why I became an editor
I love language and the power it can have in communicating thoughts, ideas, and more. Good writing can help establish you as a more complete person.
I studied linguistics and Japanese in college. The past two decades were spent writing monthly retail reports for an overseas department store chain and studying psychology, spirituality, and music. I’m intrigued by the relationship between culture, language, and thought.
Background and experience
For twenty-five years, I wrote monthly US fashion/retail reports for a Japanese department store chain. I edited all executive correspondences with US business partners and translated business letters from Japanese to English.
I am currently responsible for website copywriting, email campaign writing, and proofreading client correspondences for a legal support firm.
I have copywriting/copyediting experience in the medical, legal support, financial forecasting, fine arts, and music industries.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I love proofreading and editing, as both draw upon several things I enjoy: reading, writing, and helping others improve the quality of their communication.
Favorite book:
“The Goldfinch” by Donna Tartt.
Hobbies:
I'm just a singer in a rock 'n' roll band—actually, two bands. I play keyboard.
I love walking, yoga, and hiking. When I'm not moving, I'm reading everything under the sun or doing crossword puzzles.
Editing tips:
Before proofreading a document, read it through to get a feel for the author's voice.
Proofread at a time of day when you are most alert and able to spot errors.
