Why I became an editor
I have always been a huge bookworm. I have always been passionate about words. I wanted to work with words for the rest of my life. I realised I had a huge talent for spotting spelling and grammar errors, and I knew I could make a career from my talents. Proofreading is the perfect job for me as I get to work with words all day, every day!
Background and experience
I did a lot of editing and proofreading in my multimedia course. With every assignment, we had to write a detailed report. I was always chosen to be the writer of the group. I had to go over and edit and proofread every report I wrote, to make sure it was perfect. I was also asked by many of my peers to proofread their work.
I also had to write a lengthy thesis in my final year. That involved a heavy amount of research, writing, editing, and proofreading. While it was a challenging project, I enjoyed the work. I love working with words. I have also been doing some volunteer proofreading work with Project Gutenberg in my free time.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I love helping people make their written work an absolute dream to read. I love fixing errors, improving the quality of their sentences, while still allowing the writer to express their views and meanings. I also love learning new things while reading other people's work.
Favorite book:
I have a million favourites. I love Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, The Mortal Instruments, The Infernal Devices, Throne of Glass, The Saga of Darren Shan, Skulduggery Pleasant, etc. I just love books!
Hobbies:
When I'm not proofreading, I am usually reading, walking my two dogs, cuddling with my cat, drinking tea, swimming, or spending time with my friends.
Editing tips:
I always like to have a checklist beside me as I'm proofreading. This includes all the things I need to make sure I check. This helps me not to miss anything, and I can tick things off the list as I fix those particular errors.
