Favorite referencing style
APA is the referencing style I have had the most experience with when working with students.
Why I became an editor
I simply love words and the beauty and diversity of the English language. After 25 years in Asia teaching ESL students, writing advertising copy, and now managing Perfect Proofreaders, I’ve found my way to Proofed. I find the process of error detection rewarding, and my true vocation is helping students to love and perfect their words, express their ideas, and communicate effectively. Proofreading brings out my inner Sherlock Holmes!
Background and experience
After teaching ESL students for many years, I began proofreading. As a wordsmith and an unashamed linguistic pedant, I work tirelessly for my clients in the pursuit of perfection. From the shortest menu to the longest novel, accuracy of words and clarity in writing is my goal. I have lived and taught in Hong Kong, China, and Thailand and have a deep understanding of Asian cultures, the specific requirements of ESL students, and the needs of business in a digital world.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I am a perfectionist and a wordsmith! The pursuit of perfection in writing is the ultimate match for the art and science of proofreading. All types of documents present their own unique challenges, which I relish.
Favorite book:
Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain as a child always managed to keep my attention and spark my imagination. On the Road by Jack Kerouac had a powerful literary influence on me in my teens.
Hobbies:
I love wakeboarding! I am still not very good, but it is a great feeling being on the water.
Editing tips:
Software that reads the text aloud is helpful. Listening to the words aloud in a voice other than our own engages a different part of the brain and complements other reading techniques.
