Favorite referencing style
It is difficult to select a favorite referencing style because they all have their place. In-text author–date systems are preferred, as they do not hinder the flow of text as much as superscript styles. Having to interrupt reading to check footnotes and endnotes is more distracting.
Why I became an editor
I love helping people achieve their best outcomes. Studying Earth sciences and social sciences broadened my knowledge and fostered my fascination with effective academic writing. I tutored for many years at university, helping students to write well-structured and referenced academic papers. Editing and proofreading provides me with a natural segue to continue my passion to help others.
Background and experience
I marked exam papers and tutored for many years at university. As an RN in general practice, I have mentored enrolled nurses and other employees. Tasks included assisting them with writing clinical notes and editing research papers. Between 2005 and 2008, I worked part time in a legal office. Part of my role was editing and proofreading affidavits and other legal documents.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I love the creative process and helping others elevate their writing to achieve the success they desire. I especially enjoy editing and proofreading anything on health, nursing, psychology and social sciences, the environment, and Earth science. A broad range of study has given me wide experience with different referencing styles, particularly Harvard, Chicago, APA, and AMA.
Favorite book:
Grim Pickings by Jennifer Rowe
Hobbies:
I enjoy playing the piano, gardening, embroidery, and of course, reading and writing. I have written a lot of poetry.
Editing tips:
Proofreading is a task best done when alert. Also, looking at a computer screen for long periods of time can cause eye strain, so reading a hard copy of a document can help.
