Why I became an editor
I’ve always been the person that friends and classmates go to for writing or editing advice. When I took a gap year before starting college, I knew I’d want to keep my writing skills sharp and gain some experience outside the classroom. Not to mention, I’m a detail-oriented person, so proofreading sounded like the ideal job. Being an editor means I get to help others improve their writing while gaining more experience myself.
Background and experience
For years, I’ve done editing for creative projects and academic documents. After passing Proofreading Academy's Becoming A Proofreader course, I started my role at Proofed.
Why I love proofreading and editing
It has always fascinated me that a simple string of words can convey complex ideas. I’m a perfectionist, so I love finding ways to improve someone’s writing while preserving their unique voice. While I have the most experience with academic and creative writing, I tend to be a quick learner when it comes to recognizing patterns and details.
Favorite book:
I tend to gravitate toward fantasy and science fiction. Some of my favorites include the Six of Crows duology by Leigh Bardugo and The Jasmine Throne by Tasha Suri.
Hobbies:
When I'm not proofreading, I'm likely reading, baking, or playing with my dog.
Editing tips:
Before proofreading, I like to read through the document a couple times to understand the author's style and the content of their writing.
