Why I became an editor
Proofreading has been a part of my life for many years. I have tutored others with their college papers, taught high school English for several years, and have continually proofed documents through my work as a school counselor. Now that I am retired, I see no need to stop! I want to continue what I love doing and help others in the process.
Background and experience
As a teacher and counselor, a daily task was reading and correcting documents, whether it was student work, a co-worker's writing, or something of my own. I also volunteer at my church to proofread the weekly PowerPoint presentations, which is something I have done for years.
Why I love proofreading and editing
Helping people produce their best work possible brings me joy. Often, people have great ideas but need help with the details. By proofreading, I can help turn something good into something great.
Favorite book:
Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
Hobbies:
My hobbies include hanging out with my grandkids, playing the piano, and walking my dog.
Editing tips:
The first thing I do is read the document to understand its purpose and hear the author's voice. When I finish, I read it again to ensure I have preserved the author's meaning.
