Why I became an editor
I have always loved the world of words. To me, this includes reading, writing, and studying languages. Proofreading enables me to immerse myself in all of the above.
Background and experience
I lived and taught English in Brazil, Spain, and Italy. I developed an interest in looking at language through a magnifying glass and trying to understand the structure and the rules, the reasons and etymology behind it, and its history and culture. I also have extensive administrative experience working for various large corporations. Working in this sector has provided me with experience in written formalities and gave me the ability to gauge communication in different situations.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I love having a structure through which a story can be told effectively – literally and figuratively! Proofreading is applying that structure to writing and helping people get their message across in the way that they want to.
Favorite book:
My favorite book is Shogun by James Clavell.
Hobbies:
When I'm not proofreading, I love to dance (ballet), read novels, cook, garden, and teach English as a foreign language.
Editing tips:
Before proofreading a document, I skim read it to ensure I have a full understanding of the text and how the author wants their message conveyed.
