Why I became an editor
I have always been fascinated by the power of language to convey and shape ideas, which led me to study languages and linguistics in college and for my master's. I am a trilingual academic, an avid reader, and I am also experienced in business/marketing and media writing. I am also experienced in editing for ESL writers, especially for Spanish, Portuguese, and Japanese speakers. Simply put, I enjoy research, writing, and helping others to improve their own work!
Background and experience
I have drafted, proofread, and edited company press releases, contracts, marketing materials, media articles, and social media posts for a multinational conglomerate I previously worked for. I have also edited and translated for Spanish, Portuguese, and Japanese speakers in both business and law fields. I have extensive experience in academic writing in English, Spanish, and Portuguese as well.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I get a sense of satisfaction from knowing written work is as grammatically impeccable, appealing, and creative as it can be. I especially enjoy editing and proofreading anything on politics, history, sociology, culture, film, music, and current affairs. I have extensive experience with MLA, having used it for my own 80-page master's dissertation, as well as APA and others!
Favorite book:
This is a tough question because there are too many! Some favorites include One Hundred Years of Solitude and Animal Farm and I’m currently reading Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents.
Hobbies:
When I'm not proofreading, I'm most likely to be found planning my next trip, walking my dog, or cooking while listening to music or a podcast!
Editing tips:
When I first open a document, I read it a couple of times to get a feel for the author's style. Then, I move on to mechanical editing, but I leave the more complex tasks for the end!
