Why I became an editor
I studied Classics and the culture of the European Renaissance at university, focusing mainly on Classical Latin and Humanist Latin literature. My love of literature convinced me to work with words, and it is a decision I have never regretted!
People pour their hearts and souls into their writing, and I love helping them make it even better.
Background and experience
I have worked in editorial roles since leaving university in 2017. After a number of editorial internships, I worked for 18 months in the editorial team for a well-known British chef. During that time, I wrote, edited, and proofread recipes and other food-related content for two books and the chef's website.
Since then, I have been working freelance as a proofreader and copy editor, and I have recently started contributing my own writing to an online publishing portal.
Why I love proofreading and editing
Having written two extensive dissertations at university, I really understand the importance of proofreading and editing, as well as the difficulty of proofreading your own writing! My favourite topics to edit are literature-based essays, as I have academic experience in this area. It is a real treat to be able to proofread essays or papers on Classics as it is a great opportunity for me to see what is new in the field!
The satisfaction of helping somebody perfect their hard work is huge, and I love being a part of people's writing.
Favorite book:
Educated by Tara Westover
Hobbies:
When I'm not proofreading, I love to travel. Italy is my favourite country as it is full of culture – the art, the history, the food! I also love cooking and (of course) reading.
Editing tips:
It is never enough to read something through just once. Whenever I reach the end of a section (be it a paragraph, a subsection of an essay, or a chapter of a book), I go back and read it through again to make sure that my edits preserve the meaning and tone of the author.
