Favorite referencing style
My favorite referencing style is APA because it's the style I’m the most familiar with. I used it throughout my college career.
Why I became an editor
I majored in psychology at Tulane University with a minor in philosophy. My lifelong love of reading, writing, and understanding people led me to these fields. After graduating, I pursued a career in the wine and spirits industry. I worked as a fine wine sales consultant for a large distributor for five years. However, I decided that a long-term career in sales was not for me. I needed something more. This led me to pursue a career in freelance proofreading, which has been very fulfilling.
Background and experience
I worked as a fine wine sales consultant from 2017–2022, where I wrote and edited weekly sales presentations, called on about 100 accounts, curated wine lists for upscale restaurants, and acted as a liaison between accounts and suppliers. I also worked as an assistant event coordinator from 2015–2017, where I wrote and edited blog and social media posts, communicated with event vendors and clients, organized event timelines, and managed event budgets.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I love the satisfaction that comes with helping writers create their best possible work. Plus, who wouldn't love reading as a job? I especially enjoy proofreading anything in the fields of psychology, philosophy, history, politics, and sociology. I'm most experienced in the APA and MLA formats.
Favorite book:
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho is my favorite book.
Hobbies:
When I'm not proofreading, I love to cook, watch standup comedy, and travel.
Editing tips:
I read the entire document once before making any changes to become familiar with the author's style and tone. While editing, I read each paragraph at least three times before moving on to the next.
