Favorite referencing style
In the geological sciences, referencing styles are specific to each journal. Outside of geology, I am most familiar with APA referencing.
Why I became an editor
During my PhD studies, I read a great many scientific articles and books to understand how thoughts and theories evolved in my field of geology. This inspired me to see the importance of literacy and clarity in writing.
Background and experience
My past work and graduate studies experiences in geology ranged within the fields of mineralogy, igneous petrology, metamorphic petrology, geochronology, geotechnical logging, and quaternary geology. My experience with editing and proofreading is with my own MSc and PhD thesis work.
Why I love proofreading and editing
Proofreading helps people contribute knowledge with clarity. I enjoy helping people communicate their work better.
Favorite book:
Earth as an Evolving Planetary System by K C Condie
Hobbies:
When I'm not proofreading, I may be outside hiking and enjoying nature.
Editing tips:
A first read-through of the document helps me gain a sense of the style and vocabulary chosen by the author. Observing these choices at the start keeps me on track to maintain the overall consistency with the writing style and language.
