Favorite referencing style
The APA referencing style is my favorite, most likely because I've had the most experience with it.
Why I became an editor
I have an eye for detail, which brought another dimension to my career in administration, marketing, and communications. I love the challenges of creating content from scratch and of taking someone else's content and improving it. Having become the "go-to" person at work when there was a need for proofreading, copy editing, and copywriting content, I realized that taking the step to become an editor was how I could help others the most.
Background and experience
I work as a volunteer for Distributed Proofreaders.
Other proofreading and editing roles were part of the positions I held in my career.
Why I love proofreading and editing
There are two aspects to proofreading and editing that I enjoy tremendously. The first aspect is the technical challenge, i.e., correct word usage, spelling, and punctuation. The second aspect is the opportunity to work with and help others, something very important to me since my days as a sociology major in college.
Favorite book:
While I have read and enjoyed Jane Austen's novels, my favorite is Pride and Prejudice.
Hobbies:
When I'm not proofreading, I enjoy reading historical novels, murder mysteries, and science fiction. I also love to travel internationally and try to mix in with the locals.
Editing tips:
The most important proofreading techniques for me include ensuring distraction-free time, changing the font style, printing a hard copy after the initial read, using a ruler to read one sentence at a time, and keeping a list of the types of mistakes I might overlook.
