Why I became an editor
I studied Economics at university and worked in financial services for over 10 years. I had to edit many reports and papers during my studies and work, and I never found it as tedious as some colleagues. I have always been an avid reader, and my time at home during the COVID-19 lockdowns made me realize that I might try and find work doing what I love to do. After some research, I took the plunge with proofreading and haven’t looked back since!
Background and experience
Most of my proofreading experience is with editing academic papers for ESL students.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I have always loved reading fiction and non-fiction, so I find tremendous satisfaction from words that are put together artfully and concisely. I have been reading literary fiction all my life, and in college, I was the person who read more than the assigned reading. I, therefore, enjoy editing anything on economics, finance, business, politics, history, philosophy, and literature. I have experience in Harvard referencing, APA, Chicago, and MLA.
Favorite book:
Kafka by the Shore by Haruki Murakami is my favorite book.
Hobbies:
When I’m not proofreading, I'm most likely to be found in my garden tending to my hydrangeas.
Editing tips:
I read through the entire document to get a feel for the author’s voice, and then focus on one line at a time using a checklist, correcting errors, and adding comments.
