Why I became an editor
I have always had an interest in editing and proofreading. For years, I have been asked to help numerous friends and colleagues and have enjoyed volunteering in this capacity. The more I do the more I want to do – so it is now time to turn this skill into a real career!
Background and experience
I was a computer programmer for many years, then a business analyst and technical writer in financial IT.
After that, I was a project manager, again in financial IT, and latterly a bookkeeper and office manager.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I love finding and correcting errors, both large and small. I enjoy editing to ensure the word flow and language are pleasing and retain the original meaning. I also enjoy the occasional challenge of translating complex concepts intended for a lay audience.
Favorite book:
Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier
Hobbies:
I will be walking my dog, swimming at the beach, or working in my garden.
Editing tips:
I find it essential to quickly read the document first in order to appreciate the structure and get a summary of the content. Next, I mentally segment the document into major areas. This allows me to comprehend the subject matter as well as the author's flow.
