Favorite referencing style
APA is my favorite referencing style, mainly because it’s the most familiar. I appreciate its simplicity.
Why I became an editor
While studying computer science, I began working in web design. Proofreading and editing came with the territory. I became an editor, helping foreign friends and proofreading science fiction novels and fantasy screenplays. Proofreading seemed like an ideal profession because of my passion to learn. My fondness of proofreading goes back to around age 10 when I read a newspaper full of errors on the front page and beyond. It was the funniest thing I ever saw.
Background and experience
Much of my experience with editing and proofreading came from freelancing in web design and SEO, where editing is a side job. I have proofread books and scripts for friends. I also have experience editing short ESL documents to make them sound natural.
Why I love proofreading and editing
The satisfaction of rooting out errors and flaws in logic is something that drives me as not only a proofreader, but also as a programmer, a philosopher, and an artist. Errors must be eliminated. I love to perfect a piece of writing, especially when the material is interesting. I am fortunate to have a wide range of interests.
Favorite book:
I have always appreciated The Holy Bible in the King James Version. I don't know who wrote the various books inside, but I appreciate the storytelling and dialect of the old English translation.
Hobbies:
When I'm not proofreading, I might be found gardening, swimming, meditating, or watching the fights.
Editing tips:
I like to use text-to-speech to listen to the document spoken out loud. It helps to familiarize the author's voice quickly. Subtle errors missed by the spell checker jump out too.
