Favorite referencing style
I don't have a favorite style, but I'm the most familiar with APA.
Why I became an editor
Following 10 years working as a reporter in the regional press, I took the opportunity to join a leading national newspaper. I stayed with this publication for 23 years, the last 10 of which were as group chief sub-editor. Though I enjoy reading, I have a deep-seated aversion to typos. Careful proofreading and editing help to eliminate them.
Background and experience
I worked as a senior news reporter, feature writer and agriculture correspondent for a leading broadsheet regional newspaper. I designed and edited pages for the Irish Farmers Journal and a range of magazines. I produced a popular weekly tabloid newspaper while managing a staff of eight, successfully introduced a leading racing newspaper, and produced, designed, and edited a range of A4, full color magazines for the Agricultural Trust.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I enjoy ensuring that clients' work reads as flawlessly as possible.
Favorite book:
I don't really have a favorite, but anything by Sebastian Barry, Sebastian Faulks, Kevin Barry, Billy O'Callaghan or John McGahern would do.
Hobbies:
I like to read, fish, swim, watch football, and relax!
Editing tips:
Don't rush. Read what is in front of you, not what you think is on the screen. If in doubt, check it out. Don't forget to clean up double spaces.
