Favorite referencing style
I like Harvard and APA referencing styles because I enjoy being able to link a name to an interesting idea as I read through a piece of writing.
Why I became an editor
As a scientist, nothing excites me more than curious minds connecting over brilliant new ideas.
But successful connection requires effective communication.
I became an editor because clarity of the written word enables us to share the beauty of our inner worlds with the worlds of others.
Background and experience
During the completion of my PhD, I worked as a higher degree research student mentor at my university, which involved a combination of editing. I worked closely with ESL students from all disciplines on a variety of academic documents.
I currently work in the biotechnology industry as a research scientist. In addition to performing experiments, I author research manuscripts for publication in scientific journals and create customer-facing documentation to support the business needs of the company.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I love how proofreading can give wings to writing – wings that allow conveyed ideas to travel further and be better understood by others.
Favorite book:
Twelve Angry Men by Reginald Rose.
Hobbies:
I like to play guitar, paint and ponder the nature of existence.
Editing tips:
I first take a detail-oriented approach to proofreading, using a checklist to make sure I identify common errors. My second review involves ensuring that all ideas are conveyed clearly and concisely.
