Why I became an editor
I am a primary school teacher with a love for reading and writing. While I was on maternity leave, I studied proofreading. It is the perfect job for me, as it combines my love of teaching and helping others with my passion for reading.
Background and experience
As a teacher, I am always checking and editing pupils’ work. I also teach the mechanics of English, so I have a good understanding of grammar. Another part of my role is to prepare reports that need to be grammatically accurate and written concisely.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I love being able to help others (and their writing) be the best they can be. Proofreading documents is like a puzzle; working out what it needs to make it perfect.
Favorite book:
My favorite book is Matilda by Roald Dahl. It was the book I loved to read as a child over and over again!
Hobbies:
When I am not proofreading, I love spending time with my two children, baking, and gardening.
Editing tips:
Part of my proofreading process is to read the piece aloud to help my mind focus on the meaning and order of the words.
