Why I became an editor
I majored in Botany at university, which also had Zoology, English, and History of Science as minor subjects. Reading, especially fiction and poetry, had always been a passion, but it took me a while to learn that I enjoy studying and teaching English. So, I went on to complete my master's degree in English Literature. I am an IELTS trainer and a blogger now.
Background and experience
I proofread a Ph.D. thesis in Computer Science in 2019.
Why I love proofreading and editing
Proofreading is something that, I now realize, I have been doing for years, albeit on a very small level. Correcting essays written by my students as an IELTS trainer added to this habit, and therefore, choosing to pursue proofreading seemed like a natural next step.
Favorite book:
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
Hobbies:
If not proofreading, I’m probably writing, reading, teaching, cooking, spending time with my kids, scrolling through Twitter, or just lazing around thinking that I should be doing one of those things.
Editing tips:
I work with a personal checklist that I have prepared that includes the aspects (such as quotation marks) that I personally struggle with.
