Favorite referencing style
Harvard is my favorite because it's the style I've used most often.
Why I became an editor
When I moved to Spain for my PhD, I had to start learning Spanish to communicate with my coworkers. Learning about the differences between the languages, especially in writing styles, led me to think more deeply about why we express ourselves in certain ways. As the only native English speaker in my laboratory, I’m often assigned proofreading work. I love proofreading because I get to help others and potentially learn more about topics I know little about.
Background and experience
As a PhD student, I have proofread several articles for my colleagues and been an official (anonymous) reviewer for one scientific article. I have also written, formatted, and published three of my own.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I love learning in general, and proofreading allows me to read about a range of different topics. I enjoy thinking about the structure of a piece of writing and how to make it flow without changing the author’s style. I'm especially experienced with Harvard and APA referencing styles, as both are often used in scientific journals.
Favorite book:
The Stormlight Archives by Brandon Sanderson are my favorite books.
Hobbies:
I enjoy outdoor activities, including surfing, climbing, and diving. I also love to read fantasy books.
Editing tips:
I like to read the document first to get a feel for the topic before changing anything.
